Bangalore, and Night Drive!
I have a perfect plan for a night out!
Bangalore, Namma Bengaluru, doesn’t need an introduction. It's a place, which attracts millions of students, Techies, and Job Seekers every year. And, if you have little passion, Bangalore will never disappoint you. “Bangalore is a Home, Away from your Home.” I am a software professional, living in Bangalore for a decade, and about 14 years in Karnataka. Having worked for about 10 years, and lived in a beautiful city like Bangalore, which has a lot to offer to your personal and professional life you tend to fall in love with the city and its culture. But with time, we develop different ( if not weird) attitudes towards life, things which used to excite us a lot say a night out in a Pub or Restaurant, watching a movie in a multiplex, they don’t excite us anymore. Over the period of time, such things lose their Charisma, to be honest, we get bored! Now the demand is different ( It varies from people to people ) - like a million other techies/ professional in Bangalore, after working for 5 days a week, you look for a place to escape, away from town be that night drive, night trek or simply escaped to nearby travel destinations - the city life doesn’t excite us anymore!
Over the weekend, at night when the crowd is returning from Pub, Restaurants ( Bangalore, the ‘Beer Capital of India’ ), we gear up for a night drive. Here are my couple of go-to destinations at night, irrespective of the weekend!
Where a young guy puts a Tea Shop/ stall at night and sells tea from 2 AM till Morning. Along with tea, he serves Buns, Bread, Biscuits, and Coffee. We had accidentally discovered this place Back in 2013, and since then we are regular customers. Two reasons why I like this place, I can travel anywhere for Tea, The route to the destination is via Nice Road. If you’re living in southern Bangalore, take the nice road from Gottigere, and take a turn at Kankakpura Road. After driving for a few kilometers, you would find a CCD on your left, ah! Ignore the CCD, and move ahead… after driving for a few kilometers you would reach Kankapura Police Stations on your right, and in front of the station, there you go, there is Tea stall!

“ Well, there is nothing special about Tea or Bun, it’s the moment you enjoy, and Tea with Buns helps you to cherish the moment with your friends. Visualize, you’re driving your car/ bike at night, its nice road - there are other vehicles passing by, lovely atmosphere, you’re feeling the cold breeze, and after a short drive you look for a stop, and there you go - there is Tea Shop! Don’t you love such small trips over the weekend, or any day irrespective of the weekend? “ No matter how stressed you’re, such moments helps you liberate your mind, you forget everything and start living. We need such dosages, in intervales to live this life!!!
My other favorite destination for the night out is CCD, on Kolar Highway ( have you heard of the movie KGF, Kolar Gold Fields ?).
Whether you’re a youth in the early ’20s or late ’20s, doesn’t matter if it’s the beginning of 30’s - gear up, call up your friends and go on this long cum short drive to Kolar CCD. It’s on a Kolar Highway, open 24 hours - it’s about 52 Kilometers from Bangalore Central.
It’s a lovely, calm place, with an open clean atmosphere - where you find a highway on one side, and a small hill at the back of CCD. It’s a safe place, you can come with your family and friends.
There are a couple of new restaurants beside CCD, they serve south Indian cuisine, such as Dosa, Poori, Idly, and Vada. Though they are a little expensive, quality is maintained.
At Kolar Highway CCD
If you want to extend your trip, go further in Kanakapura Road, after driving for about 55 ~60 KM you would find a Village Muthathi at the Bank of Kaveri River. It is known for its forest, Temple and Elephant Corridors. There is a Checkpost at Muthathi Forest, which opens at 6.30 AM. If you enter Muthathi Town from Forest, the roads are not nice but you will enjoy the scene, but “Be careful about Elephants” - there is an Elephant corridor.
At Muthathi you can eat ‘Tatte Idly’, and can order Non-Veg on Demand.
On the other side, if you extend your drive from CCD, towards Kolar, you can reach Kolar town by driving 20 Kilometers. At Kolar, there are Antargange Caves. It’s on a hill and it’s a trek of low difficulty. Suggest you not enter the Cave without a guide, entering the cave is a little difficult, so does finding a way out!
Apart from Antargange, you can also visit Someshwara Temple, Kolar. Its a Shiva Temple, with ancient architecture, built by the Chola Dynasty in the 14th Century - a Temple of Dravidian Vijay Nagar Style.
One more choice could be Doon Punjabi Dhaba, on Tumkur road. It’s about 80 ~90 KM from Bangalore. They serve till 2 AM while leaving Bangalore you can call them and place your order for food. There are other places in Bangalore, you can look for them on Google but these two are my top 2 destinations if you’re looking for a night out and a short drive in and around Bangalore. Do visit these places, and share your experiences with me! Enjoy your drive, and night out in Bangalore. Coolsage
